David Baird Beard was born to Robert Baird and Ann Shan. He fought in the Civil War with the Union 5th Missouri State Militia Cavalry. Military records show he died of Swamp fever.
Would like to find his place of burial, if known please contact me.

The bodies of Union soldiers who died in Helena were moved to the National Cemetery at Memphis. It is my understanding that when the bodies were disinterred, they were placed in new coffins and names marked on the coffins in chalk. They were loaded on the deck of a steamer for the trip to Memphis. A rainstorm washed off the chalk, so most of the Union dead from Helena are buried in graves marked Unknown.
