Ella Luke was born in Jan of 1878 in Berrien County, GA, was the daughter of David J. "Dave" Luke and Mary Rebecca Sutton. She married William M. Roberts, Born 9 Nov 1874, on 21 Apr 1901 in Irwin County. William is the son of John G. Roberts and Rebecca Mixon. Six children were born to Ella and William. This family appears on the 1910 Irwin County Census living on the Ocilla and Alapaha Road, 1529th militia district. William was a prominent farmer of Irwin County. William died on the 2 Nov 1918 from pneumonia following Spanish influenza and was buried at New Valley Grove Church Cemetery, Irwin County, GA. His obituary from the 7 Nov 1918 issue of The Ocilla Star stated, "Mr. Roberts was one of the best of men and not only will family and community miss him, but the entire county sustains a loss in the death of this man." Epitaph on his headstone reads, "Earth has no sorrow that heaven cannot heal.: Ella and her five living children appear on the 1920 Irwin County Census still on Ocilla and Alapaha Road. Ella died on 23 Mar 1924 and was buried beside her husband. Epitaph on her headstone reads, "To her we trust a place is given. Among the saints with Christ in Heaven."
