RUTH VELMA DAVIDSON "Granny", 96, Balch Springs, passed away February 21, 2003 to be in the loving arms of Jesus. She was born April 24, 1906 second daughter to Owen Leon and Laura Jane Davidson. Granddaugher of James Newton and Josephine Carroll Underwood of Cherokee, Ga. Great-great great-grandniece of Charles Carroll of Carrollton (Ga.) a signer of the Declaration of Independence 1776. Ruth was the oldest born and raised resident of Balch Springs, Tx. The area at the time was just muddy roads and open range, nearby Mesquite, Tx. was a small town. Granny's life was rich with history and she never missed an opportunity to share her stories with anyone. In 1999, she became the oldest person in the state of Texas to witness an execution. Our loving matriarch has taken her place in Heaven and is dancing with the angels. Granny will be deeply missed but her life's legacy continues in our heads. She was preceded in death by husband, Roy Houston Clowers, son James "Brother" Clowers, daughter, Janie Ingram, and three sisters. Ruth is survived by sons and daughter-in-law, Leon and Jean Clowers of Grand Saline, "Buddy" Roy Clowers of Grand Saline, and Floyd Clowers of Balch Springs; daughter, Chatherine "Jean" Tumey of Garland; daughter-in-law, Lee Clowers of Alba; grandchildren, David Tumey, Andy Tumey, and Lisa Tumey all of Garland, Debbie Rochell of Combine, Annell High of Meesquite, and Ruth Clowers and Alice Clowers of Alba; 15 great-grandchildren; many, many nieces and nephews.
