John Heinrich Leopold, son of Chris Leopold and Anna Schramm Leopold, was born in Grebohm, Holstein, Germany, on December 19, 1865, and died at his home in Avoca Feb. 25 at the age of 82 years, 2 months and 6 days.
He came to the Walnut community in May 1882 with his folks from Germany to live near an older sister who had preceded them in coming to America.
He married Lena Froth Dec. 10, 1895. They started farming in the Walnut community, where they remained two years. Then they purchased a farm southeast of Hancock, where they remained until 1920. That year they retired to Hancock for two years. They returned to Avoca, where they have made their home for the past 25 years.
Survivors are four daughters, Mrs. Fred Lyons of Hancock, Mrs. Pete Anderson of Avoca, Mrs. Ben Kixmiller of Avoca and Mrs. Oliver Nicholai of Hancock; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
