Mary J. (Porter) Aiken was born June 22, 1848 to George and Sarah (Cummins) Porter, of Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania. She married Alexander Scott Aiken on April 5, 1882. Mary died on January 25, 1919.
"Alexander Scott Aiken was born on February 2, 1846 in Slippery Rock Township, Pennsylvania to William Findley and Margaret (Vaneman) Aiken. "At the age of 19, he enlisted in the Sixteenth Pennsylvania Cavalry, 161st Regiment, was promoted to sergeant of Company I, and served until the end of the war". He kept several diaries from the Civil War until his death in 1914. "In 1865 he entered the Westminster College, Pennsylvania, and graduated from that institution in 1870. He completed his theological course in Allegheny City. April 15, 1873, he was licensed to preach, and was ordained April 29, 1875, by the presbytery of Big Spring, Pennsylvania". He became pastor of Airville United Presbyterian Church on January 1, 1875.
"He was joined in marriage April 5, 1882. with Miss Mary J., daughter of George and Sarah (Cummins) Porter, of Huntingdon County, Penn. They now reside in the newly erected parsonage of the Airville congregation. Rev. Mr. Aiken is finely educated, and is a gentleman worthy of encouraging success in the ministry".
