Sara Louise Best, daughter of Thomas and Anna Oxtoby, was born at Spring Grove, Ill, July 5, 1884. A short time later the family moved to the Mithcell, Iowa community. There Mrs Best received her early education and graduated from the Mitchell high school. On June 28, 1905 she was united in marriage to Wallace Best. In 1907 the Bests moved to North Dakota and settled in Jackson township (Sargent County) near Oakes where they lived until 1946 when they moved into this city.
Mrs Best passed away Thursday Sept 14 at the age of 77 years and 2 months.
Left to mourn her passing are two sons, Howard and Arthur of Oakes and three daughters, Mrs Harold Romstad (Anna) of Oakes, Mrs Russell Nielsen (Marie) of Fargo and Mrs Clifford Wickwire (Nona) of Englewood, Calif. Two brothers also survive, James Oxtoby of Oakes and John Oxtoby of Long Beach, Calif, and one sister Mrs Otto Wiese of Oakes. There are 15 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Wallace, who died in 1949; her parents, two daughters and one brother.
Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church in Oakes Tuesday Sept 19 at 2 p.m. with Rev Edward B Parker officiating. Mrs Arne Melby was organist and Emmett Haugen sang "Beautiful of Somewhere" and "Abide with Me"
The following were honorary ball bearers; Chris Mikkelson, J.J. Muffle, Glenn Dill, Wn Schulte, Frank Karas and J.H. Kilzer. The active pall bearers were Les Savey, George Lyon, Leon Zimbelman, Benny Garland, Ted Pfeifle and Fred Wiese. Interment was in Oakesview cemetery with Haugen-Baldwin Funeral Home in charge.
