Norma's birth certificate shows her full name as "Baby Campbell". She was the 2nd child born to her parents. Her father was listed as John S. Campbell, born in Kansas, a laborer, and her mother listed as Arlene Sleel born in Oregon, a housewife. The actual names of the parents were John Sanford Campbell and Arlene Geraldine (Steele) Campbell. (Arlene's firstname is also found as Arline and maiden name as Steel, in family records.) The family was living at 924 Second Ave., in Spokane.
The death certificate showed Norma died of Cholera, and listed her middle name spelled as Lavon.
A little booklet called "Baby's Record" was found in family papers. It was written in Norm's mother's handwriting. Some of the information is as follows. Norma's mother wrote the middle name as LaVaughn, instead of Lavon. Her place of birth was listed as at the home address, E 924 Second Ave., Spokane, Washington and her weight was 8 pounds. Her grandparents were listed as Henry Green Campbell and Hattie M. Campbell, and Wm H. Steele and Adaline C. Steele. "Norma LaVaughn Campbell died Oct. 15, 1909 being at the time of her death 8 months, 25 days old. Her precious form we laid to rest in Highland Cemetery, Colville, Wash."
I wasn't able to find a gravemarker for this child in the Highland Cemetery. A letter from one of her father's sisters said Norma's gravestone needed to be replaced, and she needed the correct spelling of Norma's name to put on the new stone. The stone may never have been replaced. I searched for Norma's grave near the grave of her father, John Sanford Campbell, and the grave of her grandfather, Henry Green Campbell, but didn't find a gravemarker for Norma.
