"BLISS--In this city, May 14, Martha E., mother of Stuart S. Bliss, great-grandmother of Paul S. Bliss, Mrs. Lloyd Reynolds and Mrs. Stuart Bowie. Friends invited to attend funeral services Friday at 2:30 P.M. in the Drawing Room Chapel of Holman & Lutz Colonial Mortuary, NE 14th and Sandy blvd. Interment Lincoln Memorial Park."

The 1900 census for Chicago, Cook County, Illinois shows Hale Bliss, Head, at age 51, born in Michigan, Feb. 1849, and Martha Bliss, Wife, at age 43, born in NY May 1857. Their two children were listed as Ernest Bliss, born May 1879 in Illinois, and Stuart Bliss, born Oct. 1885 in Illinois. Hale is listed as a druggist.
In 1910, Hale, Martha and their son, Stuart, are living in Umpqua, Douglas County, Oregon, and Hale is a farmer. In 1920, Martha is a widow, living in Portland, Oregon with her son and daughter in law, Earnest [Ernest] and Florence Bliss.
