Mary Willie Vickery Bryant, age 89, of 431 Lakewood Lane, passed away on Thursday, November 27, 2014, at NHC of Anderson. Born in Lavonia, GA on November 9, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Samuel Pearl Vickery and the late Mary Alice Edwards Vickery. She was married to the late Calvin Horace Bryant until his death in 1959.
Following her graduation from Anderson Girls High School, Class of 1943, Mrs. Bryant served as a nursing assistant at Abney Mills. She was a devoted member of New Prospect Baptist Church where she was a member of the women’s circle and served in the Clowns Ministry of the Church. For many years, she taught and was director of the Fourth Grade Sunday School Class at New Prospect.
Left to carry on her legacy are 3 sons, Don Bryant and his wife, Martha, of Anderson, Doug Bryant and his wife, Bonnie, of Blythewood, SC, and Dwane Bryant and his wife, Vicky of Greer; a brother, Leon Vickery of Anderson; 2 sisters, Mildred Brunson of Greenwood, and Margaret Thomas of Anderson; 9 grandchildren, Cal, Eric, and Collin Bryant, Elisabeth Cromer, Morgan Bryant, Kurt Huffstetler, Kirsten Walters, Jordan and Katelyn Bryant; and 8 great-grandchildren, Hailey and James Bryant, Hannah Cromer, Ori, Silas, and Immi Walters, McGill and Bray Bryant. In addition to her parents, and husband, Calvin, Mrs. Bryant was preceded in death by a sister, Mavis Yount.
A Graveside Service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Mary Willie Bryant will be held on Sunday, November 30, 2014, at 3 p.m. at the New Prospect Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Dr. Tony Smith officiating. The family received friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Saturday evening.
