|Death: ||Aug. 22, 1914|
Joseph is the son of John G Atkins & Nancy Jane Smyth Atkins. He married Nancy Cordelia Brown on August 11, 1878 at Des Arc, Prairie County, Arkansas. They had four children (that I know of): Elizabeth, Thomas Epps, Worlie Mae and Grace Virginia. Nancy died in 1900 when Grace was just 2 years old. There is no record of a burial for her but some records indicate she is also buried in this cemetery beside her husband.
Excerpt taken from The White River Journal, August 27, 1914:
Died - At his home in Fort Smith, on August 22, 1914, Mr. J. A. Atkins, a former citizen of Prairie County, and brother to T. P. Atkins at Devall's Bluff, and father to T. E. Atkins and Miss Grace Atkins of this city. Mr. Atkins was a carpenter, and several months ago received a fall and injuries from which he never recovered. His remains were brought to Hazen and laid to rest in the family burying grounds. We extend our deepest sympathy to all bereaved.
