Caleb Avant is believed to be born in France & left that country as a Huguenot refugee. He listed as living in Georgetown County, South Carolina & was a charter member of Old Prince Fredrick of Winyah Parish & according to church vestry was registered & assigned pew number 14 about 1742. He may be buried there in an unmarked grave. This info gleaned from Parish Vestry records of this church. Baptism records for his family are listed there also. The majority of church members were rice planters.
