|Death: ||Mar. 4, 1870|
Hanover (Allamakee County)
Mary McNutt Burke died of a heart attack March 4, 1870. She had been ill but a few days. She was conscious and seemingly knew her death was near. She remained peaceful and resigned. To her sister-in-law, Ellen Ryan, she remarked, as if taking some interest in civic affairs, "This is the date the president takes the oath of office." She joined those about her in fervent prayer and told them that death was near for her. It was. She is buried in the West Ridge Cemetery. Grandfather had a nice monument erected for her. At the time of her death she was in her thirties.
She had 5 children: Michael, James, John, Thomas & Mary.
