Alvin J Knappenberger, age 92, of Knox, passed away Sunday afternoon, May 18, 2014.
Born June 2, 1921 in Clarion County, he was a son of the late Ira L and Anna E Wile Knappenberger.
He was a 1938 graduate of the White Memorial School in Knox.
Alvin was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in the European Theater of Operations during World War II. He was a tank mechanic in the Ordinance Dept and was honorably discharged as a Technician Third Grade.
He worked for Knox Glass Containers for 32 years.
On February 2, 1942,in a ceremony performed by the late F. F. Fisher, Alvin and the former Rhea J Ashbaugh were united in marriage.
Alvin was a life member of the St Mark's church in Monroe, serving as a trustee for many years, but was currently attending the St Paul's United Church of Christ on Twin Church Road.
He was also a member of the Foxburg American Legion Post #636 and enjoyed woodworking, gardening and most of all his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Paul, Raymond and Fred Knappenberger.
