He was born in Buncombe County, NC and migrated to Missouri with his parents in the mid-1840s. Pinckney apparently received sufficient education to be a school teacher in Cedar Township, Boone County, MO in 1860. Both of his marriages were tragic, his first wife dying just months after their union. His one son died at a young age. His second wife died three days after giving birth to one who died the same day; and Pinckney died about one month later. They may have succumbed to an epidemic of some sort, an occurence not uncommon in the 19th century. Two daughters, Lisa and Lydia, apparently survived; but they have been lost in the limbo along with countless women of the ages.
