Son of John Alexander and Nancy EAGLESON, he married Louisa Agnes PICKENS, December 14, 1864, Ohio. Reverend Dr. Athelbert James Alexander was a Pharmacist and Physician in Mt. Pleasant, Ohio, later ordained in 1869 to preach in the Presbyterian Church. Organized churches of Farmington (now Colerain), Portland and Scotch Ridge. They moved to Warrenton Ohio, then back to Scotch Ridge where he preached for 14 years before moving to Washington County, Pennsylvania and then Dallas Church of West Virginia. His Manse was built in Scotch Ridge later owned by A. H. Pickens.
Minister Scotch Ridge 1869 - 1885; West Union Church at Dallas, WV may 1885 until death in Dallas; was MD - graduated Cincinnati Col. Of Medicine 1864, Vermillion Institute, OH 1865, Western Theological Seminary 1867-1868 -
"Mr. Alexander was a man of unusual physical and mental vigor. He ministered to his parishioners both physically and spiritually, being a practicing physician and minister of the Gospel. He was a part time farmer. He preached for 23 years and practiced medicine for 20 years.
He organized the Portland Presby. Church (now Rayland) June 7,1870 with 13 members.
