Kaplan—Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Sunday, December 27, 2009 at Vincent Funeral Home - Kaplan honoring the life of Melva G. Abshire, 78, who died Thursday, December 24, 2009 at Abrom Kaplan Memorial Hospital.
She will be laid to rest at Kaplan Cemetery with Reverend Joshua Guillory officiating the services.
Serving as pallbearers were Chad Langlinais, Tommy Clark, Marcus Abshire, Robbie Abshire, Cole Langlinais and Mitchell Sistrunk.
Serving as honorary pallbearers were Austin Abshire and Edward Dartez.
She is survived by two sons, Jimmy Abshire and his wife, Linda of Kaplan, Robert Abshire and his wife, Barbara of Kaplan; three daughters, Sue and her husband, Bob Toups of Kaplan, Brenda and her husband, Tommy Clark of Kaplan and Glenda and her husband, Chad Langlinais of Cow Island; one brother, Dennis Guidry of Kaplan; one sister, Earline Delcambre of Lake Arthur; six grandchildren, Cassie Sistrunk, Marcus Abshire, Paula Robinson, Robbie Abshire, Crystal Abshire and Cole Langlinais; eleven great grandchildren, Bethany Sistrunk, Mitchell Sistrunk, Austin Abshire, Jaida Abshire, Kaitlyn Abshire, Marque Abshire, Klowie Abshire, Mason Abshire, Johnathan Allen, Lalya Bush and Makayla Bush; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Abshire; one grandson, Dylan Paul Langlinais; her parents, Rene Guidry and the former Margurette Porter; five brothers, Oneil, Jessie, Melvin, John and Sabry Guidry; and two sisters, Imay Harrington and Ophelia Calais.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Kaplan, 300 N. Eleazar Avenue, on Saturday, December 26, 2009 from 2 p.m. until 9 p.m. with a rosary being prayed at 7 p.m.; Sunday, December 27, from 8 a.m. until services.
