Son of James Lloyd Abbot Jr. and Amelia Lyon (Ross) Abbot; grandson of J.L. and Amanda (Blake) Abbot, Maj. William Henry Ross and Mary Amanda (Lyon) Ross.
He resigned from the Navy in 1915 to return home and run the family business, the Abbots' Sunnyvale Nurseries.
Married Helen Buck Taylor, daughter of Richard Vipon and Helen (Buck) Taylor. Died in the east room of the Roberts-Taylor house, 910 Government Street, two weeks before his 100th birthday.
