Audrey Alva Dixon Brown

El Dorado County
California, USA
Death: Apr. 24, 1984

Audrey was the daughter of a well known pioneer family, Fred and Emma Dixon, who became quite wealthy from land holdings in El Dorado County, in and around Sacramento and in the Lake Tahoe area. She was born on July 19, 1988 in White Oak, El Dorado County, California. Fritz Brown met his future bride Audrey while he was attending college in California and working for a fruit growing company north of Sacramento. Audrey's parents, the Dixons, had a luncheon for the bridal attendants, her immediate family and a few close friends at the Sacramento Hotel following the reception at the St. Paul's Episcopal Church, where they were married. Audrey and Fritz lived briefly in San Francisco and Calgary, Canada before deciding to settle in Fresno, California, where their eldest two girls were born. Fritz opened a seed and plant store in Sacramento and did well until the banks closed and depression struck. On their seventh wedding anniversary Fritz had his first heart attack which necessitated closing the store. Until his death, some six years later, he was forced to spend much of his time in bed. After his death in 1937, Audrey raised their three girls and worked for the city of Sacramento and then in the Health Department. During World War II she worked in the Clinic and at the Emergency Hospital until retiring in 1956. She travelled extensivly throughout the world, often taking her grandchildren with her on each of her trips. Their eldest daughter Nanele Fahy was born March 20, 1924 in Fresno, daughter Margaret Joyce "Peg" was born September 28, 1925 also in Fresno, and their daughter Hollis Franke was born April 25, 1929 in Sacramento. Audrey passed away in Sacramento on April 24, 1984 and is buried next to her husband at East Lawn Memorial Park which is located in Sacramento, California.

A memorial bouquet for a very special cousin and friend to my family. Audrey and my mother were very close and kept in touch by letter writing throught their adult lives. She was a warm and loving person and I had great admiration for her strength.
