BOUNTIFUL--Eugene Duerden Piepgrass, 80, cherished husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away December 26, 1998 in Bountiful, Utah.

Born September 30, 1918 in Woods Cross, Utah to Jacob Elijah and Elizabeth Duerden Piepgrass. Married Virginia Thomson November 6, 1940 in Salt Lake City, Utah. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary by being sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.Gene attended Davis County Schools. He served in the U.S. Navy for 11 years serving in World War II, the Korean Conflict, and in the naval reserves. He owned and operated Gene's Conoco in Bountiful for 18 years, and retired in 1980 from the Salt Lake VA Hospital.

He was an active member and past commander of the American Legion in Bountiful and served as treasurer for 20 years. Gene proudly served 18 years as a volunteer with the South Davis Fire Department. He also loved to travel and served as Utah State Director of the Good Sam Travel Club for four years.

He was an active member in the LDS Church serving as a high priest. He was also a member of the Sons of Utah Pioneers and was one of the last grandsons of original Bountiful pioneers.

Survived by his wife, Virginia (Mickey); daughters, Jean (Jerry) George of Roy; Marian (Harry) Lord of Bountiful; Barbara (Jim) Williams of Alpine; Janet Piepgrass of Des Moines, Washington; 13 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren; and all his furry friends. Preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Geneve Bellew and Mary Hardy.

Special thanks to the great doctors and nurses at the University of Utah Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 31, 1998 at 11 a.m. in the Bountiful 11th Ward Chapel, 115 Wicker Lane (20th South and Orchard Drive). Friends may call Wednesday, December 30 from 6-8 p.m. at Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary, 295 North Main, and Thursday from 9:45-10:45 a.m. at the church prior to services. Interment, Bountiful City Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Cardiac Division of the University of Utah Hospital, c/o Phil Willden, 50 North Medical Drive, Salt Lake City, Utah 84132
