BALES, JAMES (W.T.) WILLIAM THOMAS (JAY) - age 79, passed away July 20, 2007 at his home in Strawberry Plains. He was a driver for H.T. Hackney in the early 1950's, mined at US Steel in the mid '50's and retired from Magnavox. Preceded in death by his mother, Callie Humbard Bales; father, Pryor Lee (My) and Ellen Bales; and sister, Leona Rettig. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Grace Beard Bales; sons and daughters in law, Butch and Linda of Jonesboro, Arkansas, and Danny and Nicki of Jefferson City; daughter, Anne of Strawberry Plains; grandchildren, Jimmy Bales and Christi and Kristie Bales Huffman and Joey all of Jonesboro, Arkansas, Shane Miles and April of Strawberry Plains, Laura Miles of Knoxville, Lesli Bales-Sherrod and Jimmy of Knoxville, Audra Bales Hakim and Chuck, Mark Bales, and Brad Bales, all of Jefferson City; great grandchildren, Jeremy Ricker and Caleb Miles of Knoxville, Joshua and Luke Hakim of Jefferson City, Josh, Brandon and Brent Huffman of Jonesboro, Arkansas, and Bryan of Strawberry Plains; sister, Geraldine Denny of Strawberry Plains; brothers and sister in law, Herb Rettig of Oregon, Norman and Violet Brown of New Market and Larry Williams of Strawberry Plains; aunts, Fairy Humbard Breeden, Ruby Cole Wyrick and Bessie Cole; numerous nieces, nephews great nieces, great nephews, cousins, special friends and neighbors. A celebration of life memorial service will be led by Pastor Dennis Maxey at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Strawberry Plains Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Strawberry Plains Presbyterian Church, 3168 W. Old Andrew Johnson Highway, Strawberry Plains, TN 37871. The family wishes to thank all his caretakers and Fielden Funeral Home for cremation services.
