Marie Louise Knipping Hagedorn was born to Christian Philipp Knipping (1760-1822) and Anna Elisabeth Herschel Knipping (1783-1872) in Lachem, Hameln-Pyrmont, Niedersachen (Lower Saxony), Germany on October 15, 1804. She married Carl Dietrich Rudolph Hagedorn in 1827 in Germany. Together they had 6 known children:
Anna Marie Aurora Hagedorn Witte (1827-1900)
Rudolph Carl Ernst Hagedorn (1829-?)
Caroline Marie Amalia Hagedorn van den Heuvel (1835-1897)
Adelhaid Rosalie Hagedorn von Bieberstein (1838-1931)
Maria Hagedorn (1840-?) Spouse Unknown
Ferdinand Hagedorn (1840-1883)
All of the children were born in Germany, most if not all, died in Texas.
Carl and Marie Hagedorn emigrated to Texas in 1853. She died on the 5th of May, 1905 at the age of 100 and was buried in the Jaeger Witte (then the Hagedorn/Witte Cemetery).
She was the great niece of Sir William (Wilhelm) Herschel and Sophia Herschel who found the planet Uranus and its 2 moons and 2 of the moons of Saturn , along with explaining the motion of the Solar System. He composed 24 symphonies before becoming the British court astronomer. They have plaques in Westminster Abbey. Her grandfather, Johann D. Herschel (1755-1827) was a famous entymologist.
