Charles graduated from Harvard College; then attended MIT for a year, 1853-54. He followed two of his older brothers into the business world becoming a stockbroker. He founded the firm of Moors & Cabot with a friend and colleague John Moors. The firm is still in existence in Boston. He lead a movement amongst the U. S. Steel stockholders against the 12 hour day in the steel industry.
