FRENCH IMMIGRANT c. 1894

"Alfred Collins, who died from injuries and shock Saturday morning after his arm was caught in a mattress machine at the Carman Manufacturing Company where he was employed, was a native of France and had lived in the United States 40 years and in this community 24 years. He is survived by his wife, Melva ; two daughters, Mrs. Neil Hickok of Wilmington, NC, and Mrs. G.P. Sullivan of Port Townsend; four sons, Roy, Glen, Harvey and James, all of Tacoma, and five grandchildren. The C.C. Mellinger company will announce the funeral service." (Tacoma News Tribune, Sunday 17 May 1942, page A15.)
