My GreatGrandfather, Charles, was born in Scott County, Indiana to Zacheus and Martha Jane (Redman) Doughty. His father died when he was but a young boy. When Charles was 21 years old, he and friends started west to find work. In 1886, he settled on the farm in Rush Township (near Webster), Rooks County, Kansas. The next year Charles married my GreatGrandmother, Susan Isabelle "Susie" Trulock, May 7, 1887 in Maysville, Dekalb, Missouri. They returned to Rooks County, Kansas and started their life and family on their farm. Charlie, as he was known in Rooks County, was a very prosperous farmer, rancher, and businessman and was well known throughout Rooks County. He served on the school board for 27 years and assisted in the organization of Stockton National Bank in 1905 in Stockton, Rooks, Kansas and was a member of the board of directors until his death. Charles and Susie built a beautiful large, 2-story frame home in 1908 from wood brought in from Oregon. It had hot and cold running water, carbide lights, phone room, and bathroom on the second floor. Charles and Susie had 7 children with Daisy (my Grandmother) as their youngest child. We never knew you, Grandfather, but are so proud of you all the same!!
