WHITEHALL TIMES - 13 May 1926:
Mrs. Elizabeth Allen was called to her final resting place on Wednesday, May 5 after an illness of five months.
In the fall of 1864, Mr. and Mrs. Allen came to Trempealeau. Here, they went into business, Mr. Allen in blacksmithing and Mrs. Allen in the millinery business. Two years later they moved to Coral City, again entering the business.
In 1875 they moved to Whitehall where Mrs. Allen engaged in the hotel business known as the Allen House. This profession she followed as long as she was able to work, which lasted for a period of 45 years.
The passing of Mrs. Allen removes one of the pioneers of Whitehall. She was best known as the proprietress of the Allen House which was a popular hostlery all the years of its existence. Mrs. Allen was a careful, frugal woman, full of energy and had amassed considerable property. Her activities continued up to a few years before her death.
