My Dad was born and raised on the Brinkmann Farm North of New Minden, IL. and farmed with his father. He married my mother, Elda Maschhoff on 2-10-1929 and they lived on the Brinkmann Farm with Grandpa. My brother and I were born on the farm: Roger A. Brinkmann 11-21-1929 & Hilbert P. Brinkmann 11-15-1932.
After becoming ill with T.B. for some time, my Dad went by train to the Lutheran Sanitarium in Wheat Ridge, CO for care, where he resided for 4 years, until he passed away. I was only 2-1/2 years old when my Dad went to Colorado, so I really have no memories of my Dad being at the farm. My Dad and Mother and Grandpa & Grandma Brinkmann are buried in St John's Lutheran cemetery at New Minden, Illinois.
My brother Roger and I and my mother made one trip by train to Colorado to visit my Dad and that is really the only memory that I have of seeing my Dad. I do have memories of living on the Brinkmann farm during those 4 years with Grandpa Brinkmann, who helped take Good care of us. I also have some fond memories of receiving Christmas Boxes from the 3 Uncles in Denver CO.
In the late summer of 1939, after my Dad passed away, we had a Public Sale of all the Farm Equipment. Grandpa, then moved in with his son Walter & family until he passed away in January of 1940.
Mother, Roger & I then moved to Hoyleton, IL and lived with my Great Aunt Lena Maschhoff for nearly two years. We then moved to the Maschhoff Home place North of Hoyleton. I attended First Grade at New Minden Lutheran Schooled and then Hoyleton Lutheran School.
