Dougherty — Services for Irene (Haney) Atchley will be held 2 p.m., Monday, April 11, 2011, at Dougherty Baptist Church in Dougherty, Oklahoma, with Pastors Willard McCartney, Jr. and Alan McCoy officiating. Interment will follow in Dougherty Cemetery.
Irene was born January 15, 1922, to Charles and Zula (Callis) Haney in Dougherty, Oklahoma. She passed away Friday, April 8, 2011, in Sulphur, Oklahoma at the age of 89 years, 2 month and 23 days.
Irene was raised in Dougherty and graduated from Dougherty High School. She and Leroy Atchley were married on October 11, 1941, in Sulphur. After they were married, they continued to live in Dougherty until moving to Sulphur in 1961. She worked as a waitress at various restaurants in the area and in the kitchen at the Veteran Center in Sulphur. She was devoted to her family and church. She seldom missed a family reunion where she could visit with relatives. She was a member of the Dougherty Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy, January 22, 2002; her parents; daughters, Christine Shepard and Ellouise Bumpass; sons, Jimmy Atchley and Charles Leroy Atchley; and sisters, Effie Brooks and Odene Haney. She was also preceded by a special aunt that she grew up with and considered to be like a sister, Pauline (Haney) Montgomery.
She is survived by daughter, Joyce Doggett of Sulphur; sons-in-law, Jerry Bumpass and Bobby Shepard both of Sulphur; grandchildren, Betty and Glenna Billingley of Austin, Texas, Susan and John Habeger of Wichita, Kansas, Desiree and Jason Boette of Lakewood, California, Jerry John and Tiffany Bumpass, Angela and Tracy Sanders, Randy Holland and Leroy Holland all of Sulphur, and Ralph Holland of Tulsa; 20 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services are entrusted to Hale's Krien Funeral Home, Sulphur.
