Leota was the daughter of William Craig (sic) and Ruthie Carpenter Vandegrift. She spent most of her life in Marietta and Newport, OH before moving to Cambridge, OH. In 1993 she moved to her niece's home in Elizabeth, WV. Her husband, Rev. Glenn Bate died in 1984 (sic). She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Denzie and Leo Vandegrift and a sister, Mabel Carothers. She is survived by one nephew and three nieces.
