Melvin Lee Irvine, 86, of Litchfield, died Thurs., May 3, 2012 at 4:45 a.m. in St. Francis Hospital in Litchfield. He was born on May 7, 1925, in Detroit, MI, a son of Stuart & Helen (Rinker) Irvine. He graduated from Highland Park High School in Highland Park, MI. Mr. Irvine was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force from 1943 - 1946 & served during WWII. After his military service, he came to Litchfield to help his father, Stuart, build Irvine & Sons Dairy in 1946. He was employed at Dearduff Roller Rink in 1948 and became an avid roller skater. In 1950, he started in photography and contracted for several years with The Litchfield News-Herald as a news photographer. He & his wife, Lila, then opened Irvine Studio in the early 50's & was in business for 50 years. His hobbies included restoring English sports cars for himself & others. He was a member of Amateur Sports Car Racing Car Club of America and raced English Sports cars for 12 years. He was a past member of American Legion Post #436 in Litchfield, Professional Photographers Association & Jaguar Automobile Club. He married Lila E. Schroeder on June 4, 1950 in Litchfield. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Wayne Irvine.
Funeral Information Funeral services will be held Sat., May 5, 2012 at 11 a.m. in Plummer Funeral Home in Litchfield. Rev. Kurt Mews, minister of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in East Peoria, will officiate. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery in Litchfield. Visitation will be held Friday from 5 - 8 p.m. in Plummer Funeral Home.
