Ruth was born Dec. 18, 1922, in Beclabito, N.M., into the Manygoats Clan, for Manyhogans Clan. She died Feb. 13, 2013, in Farmington.
Ruth was known as "shima," "mama," "mahe" and "the general." She loved to cook, especially for visitors, and was a weaver specializing in saddle blankets. She attended traditional ceremonies and was an herbalist who collected chilchin berries and piņon nuts. She went to song-and-dances, especially the Ute Bear Dance. She enjoyed doing word-find puzzles, raising her sheep, and driving her truck. Her favorite color was purple and she always expressed kinship.
Ruth is survived by her children, Imo and John MacDonald Sr., Elouise and Tom Bekis, Annabelle Collins, Sara and Alfred Dooley and Mark and Sharon Yazzie; siblings, Mae Jean Yazzie, Stella Tso, Marilyn Dawes, and Casey Benally; and over 100 grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
Ruth is preceded in death by her son, Glenn Charley Sr.; and granddaughter, Lucinda R. MacDonald.
Pallbearers were Joseph Toney, Leonard Yazzie, Timothy Yazzie, Geoffrey E. MacDonald, Darin Bekis, and Gerrick Bekis.
Honorary pallbearers were Chris Bekis, Jeffrey MacDonald, Vincent Bekis, Gilbert Bekis, Delbert Bekis, Van Collins Jr., Norman Collins, Michael Collins, Darwin Dooley, Darrell Charley, Glen Charley Jr., John MacDonald Jr., Douglas MacDonald, Brian Yazzie, Brandon Yazzie, Tom E. Bekis, Jonathan Collins, Anthony Collins, Casey Dooley, Wesley Dooley, Marvin Charley, and Kenneth Joe.
