Frank was born Robert Eugene Hummer, 23 Jul 1921 in Dundee, Florida to Eugene Trask Hummer and June Addie Wareham. His parents divorced 2 years later and his named changed to Frank Eugene Hummer and then after his mother remarried to James Edgar "Ed" Moore, it changed to Frank Wareham Moore. He was legally adopted by Ed Moore in 1941 at 20 years old.
Frank was placed in the care of his maternal grandmother, Elizabeth Galloway Wareham where they lived in Bloomington, Illinois with his grandaunts, Dr. Rhoda Galloway Yolton and June Galloway Reed. He attended first grade in Bloomington. When he was 8 years old, his mother and her fiance collected Frank and moved to Alhambra, California with his grandmother following by train. Frank attended Ramona and Fremont schools as well as graduated from Alhambra High in 1939. He attended Pasadena City College in 1940-41 but after the bombing of Pearl Harbor he enlisted in the Navy to become a pilot and attended officer's flight school at St Mary's College in Alameda Co. He had a rough time with his studies because of illness (measles and chronic ear infections)which put him behind his class. When he finally graduated, he had not been flying for a very long time and "washed out". Still determined to be in a plane for the war, he left the Navy and went to the Army Air Corp and attended school in Springfield, Missouri where he became a navigator. more later.
