AGE: 82 LOVELADIES, Long Beach Twp.

Dr. BEN J. ADDIEGO, age 82, of Loveladies died on Saturday December 18, 2010 at his home.

Following two years of service in the United States Navy, Ben graduated from Temple University in 1955 with his D.D.S degree. He went on to graduate from Northwestern University in Chicago with a Masters degree in Orthodontics in 1957.

Ben was an orthodontist for 50 years(1957-2007). His main office was in Haddonfield, NJ and he also had an office in Ship Bottom on Long Beach Island, where Ben raised his family.

Ben was one of the 7 founding faculty that started the Orthodontic department at Temple University in Philadelphia in 1957. He remained an assistant clinical professor of Orthodontics at Temple University from 1957 to 1971, and also taught the dental hygiene program there. He was a member of the American Dental Association and the American Association of Orthodontics. He was also a member of the European Orthodontic Society and the World Federation Organization. In addition to his teachings of orthodontics at Temple University, Ben also lectured internationally in Italy.

Ben was a member of the LBI Rotary, 800 Fishing Club, Nantucket Angler's Club, Tavistock Country Club in Haddonfield, NJ and the Littoral Society.

Ben was an avid surf fisherman and his #1 passion was fishing for striped bass off the beaches of LBI and Nantucket, MA where he obtained his commercial fishing license in years past.

When he wasn't fishing, he was cooking and feeding his family and friends. Ben spoke fluent Italian, loved traveling to Italy where he still has family and friends.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Karen of 42 years, 5 children, Biagina and John Zimmerman of Loveladies NJ, Dr's Nicholas and Lara Addiego of Loveladies NJ, Gabriella and Steven Hernandez Esq. of Forked River NJ, Dr's Mimmo and Jessica Addiego of West Creek, and Gaston van de Wetering of Utrecht, Holland. His brother, Dr. Anthony Addiego of Moorsetown, and was predeceased by his brother, Dr. Frank Addiego of Westmont NJ. Ben has 13 grandchildren: Sayer, Olivia and Keara Zimmerman, Ben, Connor and Andrew Addiego, Rafaela Hernandez, Mario, Angelo and Domenic Addiego, Timo, Mart and Rosemijn van de Wetering.

A Viewing will be held on Tuesday December 21, 2010 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the Bugbee-Riggs Funeral Home, 12th Street and Long Beach Blvd, Ship Bottom, A Funeral Liturgy will be offered from St. Francis RC Church, 4700 Long Beach Blvd, Brant Beach on Wednesday December 22, 2010 at 10:30 am, Entombment will follow in St. Mary's Parish Cemetery, Manahawkin.
