|Birth: ||May 8, 1919|
|Death: ||Nov. 30, 1942|
Clyde Lang enlisted in the U.S. Navy on 15 Dec 1937. He was assigned to the USS Northampton (CA-26), a heavy cruiser, during World War II, Pacific Theater. On 30 Nov 1942, the Japanese torpedoed the Northampton at the Battle of Tassafaronga. Although casualties were considered light (most of the sailors were rescued after about an hour), Clyde did not survive. He was listed as missing/lost at sea.
His grave marker gives his date of death as Dec. 1, 1942, even though the battle was on Nov. 30, 1942, and that's when he was reported as missing in action/lost at sea. Perhaps the Navy didn't declare him dead until the following day when it was confirmed he didn't survive.
Clyde was the son of Clarence F. and Edna (Honberger) Lang.
