E. F. Berend, 93, died Saturday in a Archer City nursing home.

Rosary was at 8 p.m. Sunday in Aulds Funeral Home chapel. Mass was held at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Windthorst with the Rev. Bart Landwermeyer, pastor, officiating. Burial was in the St. Mary's Cemetery under direction of Aulds Funeral Home.

Berend was born Dec. 21, 1887 in Herman, Missouri. He lived in Windthorst since 1892. He was a farmer and rancher. He was a charter member of the Knights of Columbus in Windthorst, Texas.

Survivors include two sons, Lawrence of Windthorst and Paul of Wichita Falls; a brother Anton of Windthorst; a sister, Annie Litteken of Wichita Falls; and 19 grandchildren.

Pallbearers included the grandsons.
