Sarah Terry married James Alexander Greer, son of John David and Sarah Hunt Greer, on 20 August 1816 in Jasper Co, GA. They lived in Jasper County until approximately 1830 at which time they are found on the Troup County, GA Census, living next to James' brothers, Nathaniel Hunt and William D. Greer.
In December of 1839, James A. Greer borrowed money from his father, John D. Greer, Sr., to move his family to TX. It is possible that he traveled with or followed Nathaniel Hunt, as it was about this time that Nathaniel left Chambers Co, AL on his way to Texas. James A. was reported to have had 640 acres in San Augustine, TX.
Disaster struck on October 11, 1840 when James Alexander died while trying to protect his family against an Indian attack. They were living in Montgomery County just 60 miles east of the home of his brother, Nathaniel Hunt Greer.
When he died, Sarah packed their children into a covered wagon and brought them back to Georgia. The story has been passed down from generation to generation, that she rode horseback from Texas to Georgia.
On her return, she lived near her father-in-law, John D. Greer. Sarah P. Terry Greer was living in LaGrange, Troup Co, GA when her father-in-law, John Greer, Sr., RS died.
Sarah had returned to Georgia prior to the marriage of their daughter, Nancy Terry Greer, who married William Terry Kirby in 1842. In 1850, Sarah and her family are in Randolph Co, AL.
