My (great) grandma. She was the best. 36 years later, I still think of her and miss her every single day. When we were kids, she'd hug us so tightly we could hardly breathe! That was in the days of the 5 cent and 10 cent candy bars. Anybody could get a 5 cent candy bar. But she always bought the 10 cent candy bars for us. She always wore a dress with an apron over it, and she'd tell us she had something in her apron pocket. We'd reach in and pull out a 10 cent candy bar.
I wish I had asked her questions - there is so much more I wish I knew about her. I know she had trials in her life - losing her only son to a shooting accident at 14 years old. Losing a daughter at 21 years old to heart troubles. Losing a sister at 18 to childbirth. She had good times too - watching 3 daughters grow and have families of their own. She always had a big garden and would can everything. Milking cows to make butter, I remember her churning.
I love you grandma - one day we'll sit together and I'll ask you all those questions that I wonder about.
