Joseph Herman Lawrence was born in Kentucky on December 4, 1870. Joseph was the son of George Hopkins Lawrence and Mary Ann Little Lawrence, the first of 10 children.
In the 1880 Census, Joseph is 9 years old, living in Water Valley and Wingo, Graves, Kentucky with his Mother and Father, 4 sisters and 2 brothers. His father is a farmer. Joseph will grow to manhood in Kentucky learning to farm from his father.
On July 12, 1891, Joseph marries Sudie F. Slayton and they start married life on a farm in Wingo Graves, Kentucky. By the time of the 1900 Census they have 2 daughters, Eddis and Ona and 2 sons Jack and Slayton.
In the 1910 Census the family has settled in Civil District 5, Carroll, TN and continues to farm. The boys Jack, Slayton, Dewey (Duward) and Dile are at home and work with their father on the farm. Oldest daughter Eddis is 17 and working as a Star Route Mail Carrier, Ona and Trumma work in the home.
Between 1920 and 1930 all of the Lawrence children have left home to begin their own lives with the exception of Trumma. In the 1930 Census, Joseph, Sudie and Trumma live in Poynor, Ripley, MO. Joseph is still farming. In 1941 Joseph and Sudie move to Pueblo, Colorado, to be near their son Dile. They will spend the remainder of their lives in Pueblo. Joseph Herman Lawrence dies September 25 1950. He was preceded in death by his sons Jack Little in 1950, George Slayton in 1938, Dile Desmal in 1949 and twins a son & daughter Bemry and Emery in 1907. Surviving him was his wife Sudie, son Durward and daughters D.Eddis (Elbert)Garner, Ona(Curza)Judd, Trumma(Claxton)Clayburn, many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Joseph is buried in Sec B, lot 120, grave 2, the grave is unmarked but confirmed by Imperial Memorial Gardens Cemetery records.
