Obit: Eagle Lake Texas Dec 2, 1922 John W. Thatcher, at nearly 83 years of age, the oldest native-born citizen of Colorado County, died at his home here Saturday morning. Interment will be made Sunday afternoon on the Thatcher plantation, [Montgomery-Thatcher Cemetery] where he was born. He well remembered when the last buffalo was known to have been killed in this section of the state. He served throughout the war, having enlisted in Brown's Battalion, Beasley's Company. [ Co. C 35th Texas Cavalry ]
