A retired truck driver for General Mud and a resident of Donaldsonville, he died at 2 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 23, 2008, at Prevost Memorial Hospital in Donaldsonville. He was 78 and a native of Hammond. Visiting at Demby & Son Funeral Home, Donaldsonville, on Monday, Oct. 27, from 9 a.m. until religious service at 11 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Carnell Joseph. Interment in Mount Triumph Baptist Church Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Gloria Landry Dawson; seven daughters and their spouses, Sandra and Alex Landry, Beryl Hawkins, Joann and Robert Gauthreaux, Shaun and Jinel Sawyer, Kim Dawson, Sonjia Dawson, and Sonia and Clifford Millien; five sons and their spouses, Stefan Dawson, Thomas and Carla Dawson, Staff Sgt. Ulysses D. and Toni Dawson, Reginald Fields and Darryl Ross; a sister, Myrtle Anderson; 16 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, two brothers-in-law and their spouses, Ulysses and Rose Landry and Preston and Orita Landry, of Atlanta; a sister-in-law, Marie Hall, of Texas; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, including the Over the Hill Gang. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alex and Priscilla Allen Dawson. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at D'Ville House Nursing Home, Prevost Memorial Hospital, St. Elizabeth Hospital, Dr. Glen Schexnayder, Dr. Brench and Promise Hospital. He was a member of the Over the Hill Gang.
