Jesse Lea Dawson, a native of Jackson and a resident of Slaughter, passed away Friday, July 10, 2009, at age 81. Jesse was a faithful and loving husband and father who always remembered his friends and never met a stranger. He will be missed dearly by the many people who knew him. As a young man, he proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Japanese occupation of World War II and later worked as a machinist at Copolymer retiring after 40 years of service. Jesse was a Master Mason for Baker Lodge 441 F&AM and proudly served as a deacon at Slaughter First Baptist Church. Jesse's passions included his family and church as well as yard work and supplying his community with firewood. Visiting at Charlet Funeral Home, 4230 High St., Zachary, on Sunday, July 12, was from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. Masonic service. Visiting at First Baptist Church of Slaughter, 3227 Church St., Slaughter, on Monday, July 13, from 9 a.m. until religious service at 11 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Basil Wicker and the Rev. Marvin Reiger. Interment in Redwood Baptist Church Cemetery. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Lindsay Aucoin Dawson; a son and daughter-in-law, Edward Lea and Laurie Larriviere Dawson, of Houston; a daughter and son-in-law, Jackie Lynn and Jeff Farrar, of Pride; grandchildren, Rachael Lynn Farrar, Edward Lea Dawson Jr., Jameson Wesley Farrar and Megan Hewitt, Brittny Paulette Dawson and Caleb Cotten, Jonathan Everette Farrar and Brooke Garig, and Jessica Callie Dawson; two great-grandchildren, Job Michael Cotten and Londyn Elizabeth Farrar; two sisters, Pearl Beatrice "Bea" Schaefer, of Grand Saline, Texas, and Elsie Jewel Pace, of Casa Grande, Ariz.; numerous Preceded death by his father and mother, Charles Vernon and Callie Pearl Turner Dawson; a sister, Ida Mae Chidester, and two brothers, Lester Harold Dawson and Vernon Eugene Dawson. Pallbearers will be Edward Lea Dawson Jr., Jameson Wesley Farrar, Jonathan Everette Farrar, David Shaefer, Vernon Eugene Dawson and Larry Bird. Honorary pallbearers are Charles Shaefer, Malvin Schaefer, Lester Schaefer, Harold Pace, Michael Pace, George Larriviere and deacons of First Baptist Church of Slaughter.
