County Londonderry, Northern Ireland
|Death: ||Mar. 25, 1906|
Born in Londonderry, Ulster Northern Ireland, he emigrated with his Scottish-Irish parents to Canada, first to Goulburn Twp then to East Nissouri, where they had extensive farmland. In 1851 he married Hester Alderson in St Marys, Perth Co, Ont. Her family and his had adjoining farms. He was a farmer, but increasingly became a land speculator. At one time he was the largest farm property owner in St. Marys. He sold his properties in St Marys and went to the opening American Dakota territories. The family moved to St. Thomas ND. Unfortunately he lost his land interests there and the subsequent litigation followed him for years. The family next moved to Minneapolis. There his sons finished their medical and legal training. Robert and his wife lived with their daughter Mary Stinson's family in Minneapolis as well as in Toronto with the family of eldest daughter, Jennie Sinkins. Robert predesceased his wife, and was buried in Minneapolis.
