Obituary published 13 Jul 1944 in the Lincoln Sentinel Republican, Lincoln (Lincoln County), Kansas:
Charles E. Burkepile
Charles Edward Burkepile was born June 6, 1870, at Mannsville, Pa., the son of Jacob and Mary Burkepile. He died at his home in Barnard July 2, 1944, aged 74 years and 26 days. He had been in poor health for several years.
With his parents, he came to Mitchell county in the spring of 1880. He was married to Rachel Ellen Parsons Oct. 10, 1893. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary Oct. 10, 1943.
They lived on a farm in Mitchell county until the spring of 1896 when they moved to a farm in Lincoln county, living there until 1913. After an absence of a year from the farm, Mr. Burkepile bought a farm in the Denmark vicinity and lived there until the fall of '35. Increasing ill health caused him to quit farming and he moved back to the old neighborhood and then in the spring of '41, he moved to Barnard where he passed away.
He is survived by his wife and two foster children, Mrs. Violet Harlow of Lincoln and Carl Tanner of Barnard; three sisters, Mrs. J.E. Hunter of Lincoln, Mrs. Katherine Casper of Ellensburg, Wash., and Mrs. Ella Mears of Enterprise, Kan.
Two brothers preceded him in death.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 5, conducted from his late home and from the Barnard Baptist church. Interment was made in Union Valley cemetery.
