Elizabeth was born Jul 18, 1810 in Virginia, but by the 1820 census, the Francis family is in Jennings county, Indiana.
On Aug. 6, 1827, she married Daniel Norcross Butler in Jennings co, Indiana. By 1840 they have moved to Carroll co, Kentucky, across the Ohio River from Indiana. The Sept. 13 1850 census is the only one that shows the names of the family listed together, and after that Daniel has died and the others dispersed.
With Daniel, "Betsy" had thirteen children, though the fates of several of them is as yet unknown. Daniel died about 1855, of causes unknown, though it may have been yellow fever which was rampant at that time..and could account for the disappearance of some of the younger children as well.
On July 10, 1856, "Betsy" married Jonathan Yates, who himself had been widowed as his wife, Lucy, had died in 1854. They seem to have lived together only briefly and by 1860, Jonathan is living with his son and family in Elm, Putnam co, Missouri and she is not with him.
She is known to have died Jan. 9, 1893 at the home of her daughter Sarah "Sallie" Butler Wade, and the date is listed in the Clark Family Bible. She is thought to have been buried at the same cemetery as her daughter, Sallie, and other Wades. There are many broken and unreadable stones here, so perhaps that is the case with hers. She may have been buried under the name of Elizabeth Yates as that was her last married name.
