Hugh Phillip Allison was born in Feb 1771, the son of William Allison and Lucy Thompson. Hugh's father, William, was an American Revolutionary War Patriot. Hugh married Rebecca Sanders Hartt in his native state of North Carolina (Wilkes County) on 5 Nov 1788. Hugh's family moved from NC to Ft Boonesborough Kentucky. While living in Kentucky Hugh served in the US Army from 1812-1814; fighting England in the War of 1812. He served in the Kentucky First Light Dragoons. After his discharge, he was commissioned a captain in the Kentucky militia.
In 1815 Hugh moved from Kentucky to Missouri, in 1821 he settled near Booneville in Cooper County, Missouri. In 1824 he was elected Coroner of Cooper County, which he served 8 years. Hugh was a sucessful businessman and active in politics (Whig Party).
