Rosa D. Babcock of Battle Creek, 73, a lifelong Battle Creek resident, died at Battle Creek Health System Monday, March 29, 2010. She was born in Battle Creek to Theodore and Maxine (Thomas) Smitley on October 23, 1936. Rosa grew up in Battle Creek and was a 1954 graduate of Battle Creek Central High School. She was employed as a bookkeeper and secretary for 27 years at Scherer News Magazine Distributors. Rosa was also employed by Federal Home Life Insurance Company, and Embossing Printers Incorporated. Rosa was united in marriage to Robert O. Babcock in Battle Creek on January 21, 1956. She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years on October 31, 1999. Surviving are her daughter, Rosa L. (David) Montague of Battle Creek; two grandchildren, Tiffany and Renea Montague; and a sister, Marie Record of Battle Creek. Rosa was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, where she taught 2nd and 3rd grade Sunday School classes for 20 years and was a member of Awana. She enjoyed reading and spending time with her family. At the request of the family, friends may call after 5:00 p.m. today (Tuesday) at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home where they will be received 5:00-7:00 p.m. Funeral services to celebrate Rosa's life will be held at the funeral home 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 31, 2010, with Rev. Brian Spencer officiating. Interment will follow at Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to Gideon Bibles or a charity of one's choice.
