Willard Hartzell Hartpence, 58, died Aug. 3, 1991 in the High Plains Baptist Hospital in Amarillo. Funeral services were held Aug. 5 at the First Christian Church with Major Michael Robinson officiating. Burial was in the Sayre-Doxey Cemetery under the direction of Rose Chapel Funeral Service of Sayre.
Mr. Hartpence, the son of Dorland Hartzell and Julia Helen Hartpence, was born Nov. 16, 1932 in Sayre. He had attended Oklahoma A&M University as well as Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford. He had played college football for Oklahoma State University. Mr. Hartpence had also served his country in the Armed Forces during the Korean Conflict. He married Bonnie Summerfield on June 23, 1961 in Clayton, N.M. and they had lived in Borger, Texas, for the past 23 years, where he was the operator for the Caminco Fertilizer Company.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, James.
He is survived by his wife, Bonnie, of the home: one son, Timothy Hartpence of Ft. Sill, Okla.; two step sons, Major Michael Lee Robinson of Abilene, Texas and Terry Lee Robinson II; and a host of nieces, nephews, other Oklahoma relatives and many friends.
