James Burton Hartpence dies in Oklahoma City:
James Burton Hartpence, 1136 North McKinley, Oklahoma City, died Jan. 8, in the Veterns hospital at Oklahoma City following a short illness. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in the First Christian Church. Officiating will be Rev. Marion Nilsson.
Born June 22, 1927 at Mayfield, Mr. Hartpence moved with his parents to Sayre when small where he graduated from Sayre High School. He served in WW 2, the armed forces and attended Mississippi State one semester and graduated from Sayre Junior College. He was employed with Devanney's Department Store when he married Jackie Wonder at Sayre July 2, 1950. They moved to Wichita Fall, Tex., where he was employed by the Jones Shoe Store, also an insurance company. He attended Midwestern University there for an Accounting and Bookkeeping Degree. He taught at Capital Business College at Oklahoma City and later taught at the Oklahoma School of Banking. He has been employed with the State Welfare Department. He was a member of the First Christian Church.
Survivors are his wife of the home, his mother, Mrs. Helen Hartpence of Sayre; 1 daughter, D'Ann of the home; 5 sons, Jim Ted of Oklahoma City, Stephen of Hominy, Jeffery of Dallas, Tex., Dennis Neal and Joe Keith both of the home; 1 brother, Willard of Borger, Tex.; 1 aunt, Mrs. W.E. Hartpence of Sayre.
Interment will be in the Sayre-Doxey cemetery under the direction of Rose Chapel Funeral Service.
