Mrs. W. A. (Gus) Allen, a Wellington resident for more than 25 years, died in Collingsworth General Hospital at 4:10 a.m. Sunday, January 9, after a long period of ill health.
Mrs. Allen had lived for most of her life in the Eastern Panhandle where she was active in Catholic Churches of several towns and in their women's organizations.
The former Irene Harrington, she was born November 15,1903 in Pawnee, OK, the daughter of John Patrick Harrington and Cecelia Ann White Harrington. She came with her family to Canadian as a small child.
She graduated from Canadian High School in 1921 and attended West Texas State university.
She and Mr. Allen were married April 18, 1925 in Amarillo. They lived in Shamrock for a number of years, moving to Wellington in 1956.
She was a member of Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church and was active in its women's auxiliary several years ago.
Surviving Mrs. Allen are her husband; two daughters, Mrs. A.D. Payne of Amarillo and Mrs. John B. Roach of Shamrock; four grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
