Max was the only child of Fred E. and Bess (Werrell) Huett. He was killed in an airplane collision over the Adriatic Sea during World War II. He was a Liaison Pilot, but he was not piloting at the time of the collision. All nine persons aboard were killed. Max's body was recovered and buried in the National Cemetery at Bari, Italy. In 1948, his remains were removed and reburied at Tecumseh Cemetery.
Max's father wrote about him after his death that Max had "led a quiet and dignified life. He was of a very kind and friendly nature, deliberate and methodical in his undertakings, and if he ever had an enemy, I never heard of it."
His father was from Conway County, Arkansas, and his mother was from Oklahoma. One of Fred Huett's sisters was Emily Huett Griswood Thomas.
