Laurabell (Smith) Cox, 80, a lifelong resident of Elwood, went to be with the Lord Sunday, Nov. 8, 2009 at St. Vincent Mercy Hospital.
She was born Oct. 30, 1929 in Elwood, the daughter of the late Homer Smith and the late Flossie (McCarty) Smith.
Laurabell married Lester G. Cox June 4, 1948. He passed away Feb. 15, 1992.
She retired from Delco Remy in 1977 after 23 years of service.
She was a member of the UAW No. 662 and a life member of the United Christian Church.
She is survived by one daughter, Pam and husband, Fred Mort of Elwood; two grandchildren, Laurie DeLong and companion, Adam Anderson of Elwood and Kimberly and husband, Daniel Marley of Elwood; eight great-grandchildren, Ashley Mort, Nicole Alexander, Gabrielle Meyer, Abigail Marley, Benjamin DeLong, Frederick DeLong, Isabelle Marley and Danielle Marley; one great-great-grandchild, Braxton Mort; one sister, Maxine Cox of Alexandria; one brother, Herbert Smith of Elwood; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and five brothers, Kenneth, Homer "Bud," Orville, Marvin and Denny Smith.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009, at Dunnichay Funeral Home, with the Rev. Charles Gilbert officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Park.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to New Beginnings Fellowship Church through the funeral home.
